Christine Smith, Associate Professor of Nursing
Faculty Spotlight: Christine Smith
Dr. Christine Smith teaches from a Christian worldview and embraces the School of Nursing’s philosophy—that all people have intrinsic value, are worthy of respect, health is experienced when we are in harmony to self, the environment, the community, and to God.
As a family nurse practitioner, Christine has dedicated over 25 years to serving medically underserved communities on the West Side of Chicago. Through her work with a mobile health team supported by a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), she provides medical care to patients staying in shelters as well as in the health care center. As an educator, she is grounded in practical experience and brings that into the classroom. One of the most rewarding parts of her work has been precepting students in the clinic and watching their transformation from novice to ready for practice, practitioner.

- Clinical Placement Support*: Clinical education placements are a crucial part of North Park University’s program, allowing students to apply advanced nursing skills in real-world settings. Placement is a shared responsibility among the University, faculty, and students, with all sites and preceptors requiring University approval. Students should draw on their professional network to secure a preceptor. If a student is unable to secure a preceptor, the faculty can assist in obtaining a clinical site. While this collaborative effort prioritizes securing a quality educational experience for the student, it may not always align with the student’s preferred location. In addition, ensuring a clinical site may include utilizing a preceptor to find an agency that requires an additional service fee. The School of Nursing must approve all clinical placement sites and preceptors.
*Each state/jurisdiction has unique educational and prerequisite requirements that candidates must meet in order to obtain licensure or certification. For more information, please visit the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) website.
