  • Citizenship: U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLNAC)
GPA Requirement3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
TranscriptsOfficial transcripts from all previous schools required, submitted via NursingCAS
Prerequisite CoursesTranscripts must show completion of the following prerequisite courses, with a grade of C or higher:
  • Nursing Research
  • Statistics
  • Health Assessment
Transfer CreditsGraduate nursing students may transfer a maximum of nine semester hours of equivalent coursework from an ACEN, NLN or CCNE accredited Master of Science in Nursing program to North Park, with approval. Transferred courses must have a grade of “B” or higher and be no more than five years old. The credentials examiner, in consultation with the academic standing committee of the graduate nursing faculty, will ascertain the transferability of a course.
Work ExperienceAll new RN students with less than one year of full-time or two years of part-time nursing experience (paid employment as an RN), must work as an RN during the program.
Additional Requirements
  • 300-word essay that communicates your personal and professional nursing goals and how North Park and a graduate education will help you achieve those goals
  • A professional resume
  • Two professional recommendations
    • Enter the names and email addresses of two individuals in a health professional role who can evaluate your performance as a professional RN
    • At least one recommendation needs to be from a current or recent nursing supervisor; they will receive a system-generated email with the recommendation request
    • Recommendations must come from individuals who have current knowledge (last five years) of your skills and abilities as an RN
    • Recommendations are not accepted from family members or friends
  • Current, unencumbered Illinois RN license

Faculty Spotlight: Mary Shehan

Dr. Mary Shehan combines individual and group instruction in a teaching approach that values both science and people. Supported by small class sizes, Shehan prioritizes getting to know her cohort of students whom she serves as a teacher, mentor, and resource.

Her classroom is a positive learning environment with ample opportunities for building peer-to-peer connections as well as the teacher–student relationship. While guiding her students toward career pathways in nursing, Shehan encourages them to engage and share experiences with one another and develop a network of nursing colleagues so they can continue to communicate post-graduation. “I really think North Park is about developing lifelong relationships,” she says.
